Bay & Basin Shed

Peter Jessop wanders about the state and turns up to the occasional Shed on a friendship and fact-finding mission.

He was most impressed with the Bay & Basin Shed. Not only well fitted out inside, the gazebo and well developed garden beds were impressive.

The Bay & Basin shed received funding support (see below) from the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) which has assisted in achieving a functioning community facility for the Jervis Bay area.

$140,394 over 22 months

Bay & Basin Community Resources Incorporated will receive $140,394 under the Australian Government's Stronger Families and Communities Strategy to continue to deliver a mentoring program aimed at socially disadvantaged males in the Jervis Bay region.

The Bay & Basin Men's Shed "Great Mates" project aims to provide mentoring programs and a meeting place for strengthening relationships among men in the local Shire. The project will focus on supporting socially disadvantaged males and provide mentoring opportunities to increase social interaction and reduce isolation in the area.

The project will hold weekly workshops and match mentors with participants in order to help provide companionship and build self esteem and trust. Guest speakers from local outreach services will be invited to discuss a range of topics including health and employment.

The project will target 300 socially disadvantaged males and 40 volunteer mentors in the Jervis Bay and Bay & Basin areas and provide them with employment opportunities and build stronger family and community relationships.
